Trees Vermont Site Visit Consultation
The SVC provides information on how to critically view your trees individually and as a community. While some specific trees will be examined as a means of learning about your trees, their condition, and potential consequences, the SVC tends to be general in the subject matter covered.
The SVC is a conversational exchange in a Q & A type format designed to focus on your landscape and shade trees, the goal of the SVC is to help you gain additional knowledge about your trees, their environment and general condition. More importantly, the SVC is designed to assist you in making more informed decisions regarding both the immediate concerns and issues your trees face, and their long term care. Another purpose of the SVC is to help you develop an understanding of the differences between what your trees need versus what they might benefit from.
This knowledge and understanding can help you manage your trees more effectively and save you significant amounts of time and money over the course of your stewardship of your trees. It can also help you prioritize the management tasks for your trees.
During the SVC we will discuss your questions, thoughts, concerns and ideas regarding your trees in general and some individual trees in particular. Since the format of the SVC is informal and conversational there will be no written summary or report provided so you will want to be prepared to take lots of notes.
The SVC generally consists of the following:
- Meeting with you and any other property owner(s), at your property.
- Using a Q & A format to discuss the trees in question such as:
- Your goals and concerns and how they relate to the trees and property.
- Encroachment by the trees on buildings, structures, utilities and other trees.
- The trees in relation to your landscape.
- General health and condition of your trees.
- Performing a ground-based, naked-eye, walk-by assessment of selected trees (no more than 4 trees) to look for obvious defects in tree-parts larger than a specified diameter you define. This will help you understand what you can look for now and in the future as you monitor your own trees as well as understand potential consequences and events associated with such defects. Defects we look for include :
- Large openings or cavities
- Dead or broken branches
- Large cracks
- Large fruiting bodies of decay organisms
- Large stubs
- Discussing recommendations which may include:
- specific work or treatments
- advanced assessments, diagnostics or testing
- further management plan development
- Upon request, we can help you prepare limited, written specifications for work you wish to pursue immediately.
The following are not included in the SVC:
- Field, mechanical or lab Testing.
- Examination of parts not visible from the ground or with the naked eye
- Sample collection
- Examination of underground tree parts.
- Advanced assessments, diagnostics or examinations including risk assessments
- Discussion of woods, wooded or forested areas beyond generalization, or a limited number of specific trees therein
- Written reports or summaries.
Most SVCs take 90 minutes or less (depending on the size of your property and number of trees in your landscape). An SVC can be scheduled Weekdays (generally Mondays or Fridays). On occasion evening & Saturday morning appointments are available.
